CRM is pleased to announce the 2nd lecture in this series by Dr. Rajan Krishnan on “Research, Practice, Semeiosis: How Peircian Sign Theory Can Inform Research”

Abstract: Charles Sanders Peirce (1839-1914) is the alleged founder of pragmatism, which he later renamed as pragmaticism claiming that pragmatism had been misappropriated and given a valence that he did not agree with. However, his most elaborate construction of sign theory based on his philosophical categories of firstness, secondness and thirdness can help clarify many questions, doubts and angst researchers may encounter in the field, in the texts they analyse and ultimately write. It will be useful to understand the nature of truth claims made, their usefulness and validity, the eternal conundrum of self and the other in the light of Peircian sign theory which will help to locate research as part of semeiosis, the vast on-going activity of the sign.
