The History Society at AUD invites you to an interactive session, 'On Archiving Oral Histories : Exploring the 'Self', the 'Community' and the lived memories' with Surajit Sarkar.
About the Speaker:
Surajit Sarkar currently works at the Centre for Community Knowledge, Ambedkar University, Delhi (CCK, AUD). His research work at large, engages with varied aspects of Oral and Cultural History, Social and Cultural Anthropology, and the very making of the 'urban'. CCK is an inter-disciplinary research centre that develops diverse academic initiatives to generate productive and enthusiastic interactions with marginal communities. Moving away from the external social science researcher at the centre of the research process, here Community Knowledge documentation is led by community members themselves, whose perspective, concern and holistic understandings are reflected from the collection process itself. CCK facilitates this process through ongoing discussions with, and training by, academic faculty and develops public programmes to raise local visibility, awareness and feedback, by further making the collections accessible to the University faculty and others for study and integration into academic mainstream.
