Ranjana Dave is a dance practitioner and arts writer. She studied journalism at St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai, and completed an MA in Arts and Aesthetics at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. She has studied Odissi with Kumkum Lal, Jhelum Paranjape and at Nrityagram.
Ranjana’s published work has appeared in Firstpost, The Hindu, Scroll, Time Out, NCPA Onstage, Asian Age, Indian Express, and Tanz, among other publications. Between 2010 and 2013, she curated and annotated an online archive of dance video at Pad.ma (Public Access Digital Media Archive). She is the co-founder of Dance Dialogues, a Mumbai-based initiative that connects the local dance community to provocative and diverse ideas, individuals and institutions. Ranjana is programmes director at the Gati Dance Forum, developing, curating and documenting various projects for the organisation. She co-curated and curated, respectively, two practice-oriented conferences for the IGNITE! Festival of Contemporary Dance in 2015 and 2016, besides developing and editing its annual journal Indent: The Body and the Performative.
Ranjana has taught co-curricular courses at Ashoka University, Sonepat, and at KRVIA, Mumbai. She taught courses on critical thinking in dance and dance history at Gati Dance Forum, as part of its four-month certificate course, Body Space Time.
