Model for Indian vegetable market bargaining

Abstract: If you go to a Indian vegetable market and want to buy a kilo of bananas the vendor quotes a price a and you offer a price b less than a. You both haggle and eventually a transaction takes place. How do we model this and how can we generalise this?
Professor Krishna Balasundaram Athreya is a distinguished professor at the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences of Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa. He holds a joint position in the departments of mathematics and statistics. After doing his Ph.D. from Stanford University, he has held positions in various leading institutes around the world. He holds numerous honors and awards; and is a member of various Mathematical societies. His research interests include topics in probability theory, stochastic processes, mathematical statistics and stochastic modelling and applications.
