Dr Chaudhary researches the impact of sexism upon women coming in contact with the Indian legal system. Dr. Chaudhary did her graduation and Masters (Political Science) from the University of Delhi. She worked on “India South-Africa Relations in Post-Apartheid Era” for her MPhil dissertation at African Studies Department, University of Delhi. Her doctoral work at the Political Science Department, University of Delhi, focused on the judicial construction and treatment of the female criminal through an analysis of Delhi High Court Judgments in the 1990s. She was awarded UGC’s Junior Research Fellowship in Political Science in 1997.

 

Past Employment

Dr Chaudhary taught Political Science at undergraduate level at University of Delhi from 1998 to 2002. She also taught at the Vivekananda Law School (IP University, Delhi) from 2003 to 2010.

1.Paper titled “Judicial Discourse and the Institutionalization of Patriarchal Norms” presented at All-India Seminar organised jointly by India International Centre, New Delhi and Council for Social Development, New Delhi, on “Society and the State in Contemporary India: Intersectional Approach to Class Analysis” held on August 20-21, 2009.

 

2.Paper titled “Judicial Discourse and ‘Violent’ Women” presented at National Seminar organised by Department of Psychology, Jamia Milia Islamia, New Delhi, on “Aggression and Violence: Challenges for Social Well-Being” held on March 17-18, 2010.

 

Professionl Activities/Awards

Dr Chaudhary’s current research is on the manner in which different categories of women and their sexuality is constructed and treated within the judicial discourse.
