Convocation Information

The Ambedkar University Delhi held its Fifth Annual Convocation today i.e. the 9th of December, 2016 at 10.30 a.m. in the lawns of its Kashmere Gate Campus, Delhi.

His Holiness The Dalai Lama was the Chief Guest at the Convocation and Shri Najeeb Jung, the Hon’ble Lt Governor of Delhi in his capacity as the Chancellor of the University presided over the Convocation ceremony. 

 H.H. The Dalai Lama addressed the large gathering of the graduating students, faculty, staff members and distinguished guests. In his address, The Dalai Lama emphasised the importance and value of education for the young people of the country.  In his address, he added that education of minds is equally important and that the values of love and warmth which is what religion actually stands for should be included in the modern secular education in India.

The Dalai Lama stressed the need of an inner self with compassion and the togetherness of material with the spiritual for the modern life of the 21st century. In his speech, he also stressed that ‘A healthy mind is the most important element for a healthy body’.  ‘If you help others, and serve others as much as you can, that’s the proper way to lead a meaningful life’.”We can never obtain peace in our outer world until we make peace with ourselves’. According to him, the very purpose of religion is to control oneself, not to criticise others.

Prior to the convocation address, Shri Najeeb Jung, Hon’ble Lt Governor of Delhi and the Chancellor of the University in his address emphasised that India is known for its rich ancient cultural history, pluralism – it is the land of Vedas, Buddha, Nanak, Kabir, sufi saints and now it has become the land of the Dalai Lama. It is fortunate to the graduating students of the Ambedkar University Delhi to get the blessings of the H.H. The Dalai Lama.  He also appreciated the rich contribution made by the Faculty  under the leadership of the present Vice Chancellor within a short span of 8 years of its existence as a State University.

During the Convocation, a total of 549 Degrees/Diplomas were awarded to the students who have successfully completed PhD, MPhil, MA, BA (Hons) Degrees in various fields of studies from different Schools of the University in the academic session 2015-16.

The Convocation was declared closed by the Vice Chancellor with the permission of the Chancellor, followed by the National Anthem.  This was further followed by a tree plantation by The Dalai Lama, the Chief Guest.
