I am doing my research on the socio-political complexities of water governance in the Son river canal system in Patna command area, South Bihar. Access to canal irrigation is shaped by local power structures, which in turn flow from politics, economics, culture and geography. I seek to highlight the political ecology of water governance, in order to explain social movements around land and water, and the place of water in human society. My research will try to understand the politics around water at several levels and the role of formal (state government, local bureaucracy, water users associations) and informal institutions in water distribution and governance.
I am a Research Scholar at the School of Human Ecology. I am also working as a Research Associate in an ICSSR-funded project titled ‘Mapping Socio-Ecological Vulnerability’. I have completed my MA in Development Studies from IIT Guwahati. Prior to this, I have worked as an intern in a Government of Bihar project on the Integrated Child Development Scheme. My research interests include environmental governance, social geography and environmental politics.
